The Under 25’s Final was between two of the Professional Bowls Associations players who had battled their way through tough qualifiers to get here. From Lincolnshire came Jordan Philpott, former BIIBC Under 18 Singles Champion and he was up against Scotland’s young John Orr, Scottish Junior International. Both these players have a good pedigree in the sport so it hopefully will be a good game.
It was Orr that got off to a flying start with some great bowls against an equally determined Philpott and he managed to come away with six heavily contested shots in the first four ends. Philpott held him off in end five, taking a single count. Ends six and seven were one each, then Orr overturned shot down to take a double on end eight. Philpott fought on with great style and took Orr for a three in end nine to be four behind at 5,9. End ten and it was Orr with a super shot holding bowl to take a single and the set 5,10.
Second set and this time it was Philpott that held Orr at bay taking three shots away in the first three ends. It was Orr though, playing great precision bowls in top form, that took the next four ends in style to go 3,6 in the lead. One each in ends eight and nine and then a determined Philpott took two shots off Orr in the tenth end to bring the score to 6,7 – just one behind. Last end and Philpott holding until Orr yet again stole it away and it is Orr that takes the Title – Under 25 World Indoor Champion 2019.
