The last quarter final pitted Mervyn King and Michael Stepney, the Co-op Funeralcare Wild card, on the rink. It was Stepney’s runners that did all the damage in the game. End after end the Scot came up with big bowls to deny King in the first set 8.4.
The second set and the score was tight all the way and after seven ends it stood at 6.5 to King. End eight and Stepney held four shots with King just one delivery to play. King played a timing bowl but missed the main target and dropped the four. It was a formality at end nine and Stepney made it through to Semi Finals 10.6. And proved how well deserved the Co-op giving him their wild card into the event was and not only that he upset the applecart turning the semi’s into an all Scotland affair.
