Penultimate match of the day was between England International Andy Thomson and USA Qualifier Steve Halmai both hunting a space in the quarter finals of the Co-op Funeralcare International Open here at Newton Hall Holiday Park.
It was Thomson that got out of the blocks first in the first set. To be fair neither player was exactly playing at their best and it was Thomson that drew away from Halmai in quick mode as he took the first set 10-5. Into the second set and it was Halmai that found a little more form as he pegged back Thomson. By the 7th end it was 5-7 to Halmai, on the 8th end Halmai took a treble away from Thomson and it was Thomson then looking for a treble to seal a match win. Thomson proceeded and laid 3 shots but it was not to be as Halmai found a decent bowl and took 1 away and forced the tie break.
Unfortunately for Halmai, despite taking the first end of the tie break, this time it was Thomson that switched on and he managed to hold off Halmai for the next two ends to seal his place in the quarter finals.
