Scotland’s David Gourlay and England’s Mervyn King lined up against the England pairing of Mark Royal and Andy Thomson MBE in Quarter final 3 of the World Indoor Pairs Championship here at Potters Resort in Hopton on Sea. Set one saw some superb bowls from both partnerships with neither pair getting the advantage of the other. Some great skill shots and conversions kept the score down and it was Royal and Thomson that took the first set thanks to some great bowls from Thomson.
The second set saw the crowd come alive as the battle continued with great shots from all four players. By end 5 it was 3 shots apiece on the card but it was Royal and Thomson that took the last two ends to take the second set and match. 3,4 – 3,8 and into the second semi final to face the winner of the match between England’s Greg Harlow and Nick Brett v Scotland’s Darren Burnett and Stewart Anderson.
