The first pairs match this Saturday morning was between the WBT Top 16’s Michael Stepney (13) and Simon Skelton (16) against Welsh Qualifiers Daniel Slamon and Damian Doubler and as expected it was a cracking match to watch.
It was the Welsh pair that started off well taking a 4,6 lead by the fifth end in the first set. Salmon and Doubler then closed out the set taking the remaining two ends with a single and a double count.
The second set and it was reversed as Skelton and Stepney went 8,2 ahead by the fourth end. The Welsh duo took the next two ends with a single and a double but it was Skelton and Stepney that took a single on the last end to take the second set and get the tie break where they managed to hold off Salmon and Doubler to take the tie break and match. Final score for the match was 4,9 – 9,5 – 2,1.
