scotland’s darren burnett adds his name to the second round

6 March, 2017
Scotland’s Darren Burnett faced off against PBA Qualifier Paul Maynard from England in the last match of the day. In a roller coaster of a match, the first few ends were a bit scrappy as the players settled in and it was 3-2 to Burnett on the 5th end with Maynard taking a double on the 6th but it was the Scot producing a grandstand 3, 2 and 1 finish in the first set to win 9-4, but never carried much luck  in the second set trailing 1-7 in the 5th end but then managed to pick up 4 shots over the next three ends but  lost 8-5 to English qualifier Paul Maynard, a bowls club manager at Foxley near Aylesbury.

In a tense tie break, Burnett took the first end, Maynard the second and Burnett produced the match winner with the last bowl of the match, displacing the two holding shots and then winning the vital count on a measure.
