Mark Royal, World Ranked No 14 from England was up against USA Qualifier, Dan LeMessurier, who had just come through the tough preliminary round here at Potters Resort.
The first set was a bit tight to start with as both players took a little time to find their way on the portable rink. By the completion of the third end it was 3 all. Mark Royal though gradually pulled away from LeMessurier and climbed to 9,4 in front by the seventh end. This left Messurier a hill to climb with two ends left to go and although he valiently tried Royal pinned him down with chess like precision and the set closed at 9,7 to Royal. The second set went in similar fashion, Royal always just had the edge on LeMessurier and it was Royal that took the second set and match 9,3
