Last match here today was between Jonathan Ross and Alex Marshall MBE with Ross needing the win more than Marshall. Ross desperately needed a win in this match to keep his hopes alive of staying in the WBT Top 16. First set and it was Marshall that opened up proceedings taking the first three ends away from Ross to go 4 shots ahead. Ross managed a double in end four with Marshall then taking a treble and a single away from Ross in ends five and six. Ross fought back taking two singles but it was Marshall that sealed the set on end nine taking it with a well earned single to take the first set 4-9.
The second set this time saw Ross opening up with two superb singles but then Marshall slammed the door with a double and two singles over the next three ends to go two shots ahead. Again Ross kept plugging away and was rewarded with a double in end 6 and again in end eight to go 6-5 up into the final end. It was Marshall though that played a great bowl to wrest it away from Ross and tied the second set at 6 all so it was game, set and match to Marshall. Marshall goes through to the quarters and Ross departs the tournament and the World’s Top 16.
