Rednall is Ladies Singles World Champion

26 January, 2017

In the third title decider of this year’s Championships, 21 year old Katherine Rednall regained the Ladies Matchplay Singles trophy against holder Ellen Falkner who was looking to become a four time record holder of the title.

Ipswich star Rednall  peppered the jack throughout the two sets of eleven ends match and coasted home 10-5, 10-6. For Rednall,  a student at Colchester University studying Fashion and Textiles, that success brought her total of major titles in the same year to an amazing five, having already bagged the British Junior Under 25 singles title and also the mainstream British crown along with similar recognition  at the World Indoor Bowls Council (WIBC) events.

Smiling she said “I was more than happy with my game today, particularly in the first set.  I settled in immediately the game started. Ellen came through strong in the second and looked good at 5-2, but I got myself out of bother to advance to 9-2 with just three ends to play and although I fell away a bit at the last few ends,  I managed to draw in for shot on the tenth end and that put the match out of Ellen’s reach”.
A gallant Falkner said “She dominated with  her first two bowls.  She was just outstanding.  I lost my way a bit with my weight and in the latter stages of the game when Katherine wasn’t entirely nailing it I just couldn’t capitalise. No matter what  I tried she would always beat it  and had the answer.  It was all about Katherine today”.
