‘razor’ gillett’s run continues into the singles semi finals

24 January, 2020

The first match this afternoon was the second quarter final for a place in Friday’s Semi finals and was between Les ‘Razor’ Gillett from England up against Scotland’s David Gourlay MBE. The arena was solidly packed with eager audience for the afternoons action.

Gourlay delivers in the trial ends as Gillett awaits

Set one started with an incredible demonstration of unsurpassed bowls and Gillett was in deadly form as Gourlay soon found out. NO matter what Gourlay put down it was Gillett that went one better and demonstrated this ably by taking a clear eight shot lead by the close of end six. Gourlay continued fighting to no avail, though he did manage to get a two count of end seven it was the ‘Razor’ that took a single on end eight to seal the first set 9,2.

Second set and again it was Gillett that took the scrap to the wire, taking the first three ends with five clear shots before Gourlay could get in with a double count in end four. Gillett though swiftly denied Gourlay on the next end taking that two straight back and following it up with a devastating single shot in end six to go 8,2 in the lead. Gourlay dug in deep and continued fighting taking the next two ends with a total of four shots to be only two behind at 8,6. Last end to play and Gourlay drove at Gillett’s shot bowls and removed them, but seemingly calmly Gillett drew in a bowl for shot which Gourlay could do nothing about and it was set and match to Gillett.
