‘Razor’ Gillett slices his way through Skelton

18 January, 2018

The first match of the day here at Potters Resort in the ‘Just’ 2018 World Indoor Championships Open Singles got off to a cracking start with the remainder of the first round matches listed for today between tow top England players, Les Gillett and Simon Skelton. Skelton was looking for a win to gain the reanking points he desperately needed to regain his listing in the Worlds top 16 players.

Into the first set and it was Gillett that came out of the blocks with bowls that were just incredible – Skelton was playing well but it was ‘Razor’ Gillett that was at top form as he found bowls and played them to within millimetres of the jack. No matter what Skelton did he just could not shake off the Razor – Gillett swamped the first set as he took it with a scoreline of 11,3.

The second set and Gillett started as he finished, taking a treble count on the first end. Skelton dug in and managed to get a great single on end two – Gillett responded with a single on end three. Then it seemed as if Skelton went into overdrive as he outplayed Gillett in the next 4 ends to take 6 shots of Gillett to take the score 7 all in the 8th end. Trading shot for shot in the 9th it was ‘Razor’ Gillett that shaved the head and took the set with his last bowl in millimetre style to go 8,7 for set and match.
