Kent’s Perry Martin claimed his Second Round spot in the ‘Just’ World Singles, overcoming Melton’s Les Gillet in a tense shoot-out.
The score stood all square on three occasions at 5, 6 and 8 in the first set before a single on the last end gave Gillett the heads up 9-8.
However it was a different story in the second with Martin only dropping one shot on end three and powering home 10-1 with two ends to play.
Gillett took first blood in the all deciding shoot out, but Martin responded in the ensuing two ends to book a place on the morning of Tuesday 19th January 2-1.
“I was disappointed to lose the first set” admitted Martin later. “But that only made me more determined in the second. I lost to Stewart Anderson on a tie break in 2018 when I made my debut in this event. I was so pleased to have another opportunity of playing in this event so I really wanted to get over the line against Les to keep my challenge going”.
