The first of the afternoons matches from the International Arena in the ‘Just’ 2020 World Indoor Championships was the first of the two semi finals in the World Indoor Open Singles and it was Les Gillett up against Robert Paxton.
Paxton started the first set well, getting his draw bowls into the head from the off, Gillett marginally not so well but the difference it made out there on the rink was big. Paxton edged away at Gillett and what luck Gillett got was not the luck he wanted. End four and Paxton was 5,2 up, Gillett managed to grab a double on end five with both of them getting a single away on the next two ends leaving Gillett only one shot behind at 6,5. In ends eight and nine, no matter what Gillett produced he could not quite pip Paxton to the post and the set went to Paxton 8,5.
Second set and here it was Gilletts luck that simply disappeared into the ether, with Paxton playing really well Gillett tried everything he could could to get shots but it seemed as if nothing at all would work for him. At 5,0 down by end four Gillett managed to snick a single from Paxton in end five but that was all he could get. It was Paxton that dominated and the next three ends went his way and it is Paxton that goes through to the Final on Sunday.
