Andy Thomson MBE was up against Robert Paxton in the second quarter final in a bid to seal a place in the semi final just could not quite slip past Paxton. In the 1st set it was a tight affair with both players leap frogging each other throughout the first half of the set but by end 6 it was Paxton that seemed to be getting the best of the bunch. At 3-6 up on the 7th end Paxton was looking good and then it was Thomson that grabbed a double to make it 5-6. It was Paxton that played a good bowl to take a single on the 9th that gave him the first set 5-7.
Paxton set of well in the 2nd set going 7-0 up by the 4th end but then Thomson dug deep and took the next four ends with 3 singles and a double to be 5-7 down. Into the last end Thomson was looking for a treble to force a tie break but it was Paxton that again took a single and set 5-8 to get into the semi final.
