Nick Brett, the defending champion, here at Blackpool Newton Hall in the Co-operative Funeralcare International open came through a tight match against Mervyn King. Brett had the best of the first set whilst King seemed to struggle just a little. Neither player quite was at the top of their game but it was Brett that came through the first set with a scoreline of 9-5. Both players found form in the second set which was a much tighter affair. 4th end it was 3 all then 5 all in the 6th. Brett got a double in the 7th and King responded with a triple in the 8th to go 8-7 up and it looked as if a tie break was possibly looming. It was Brett that took a single from King with his last bowl to draw the set 8 all and take the match.
