Second Ladies World Matchplay quarter finals was between Guernsey’s Alison Merrien MBE and England’s Devon Cooper on the portable rink this afternoon at Potters Resort in Norfolk.

Merrien and Cooper on practice ends

It was a great match between the two, some missed ends mixed in with some superb bowls. In the first set it was Cooper that held of Merrien with some great draw bowls to go 1,4 up by the fourth end. End five and it was Merrien that managed to get on top of the match and she battled out the hard way for the next five ends to eventually take the first set 8,4.

The second set was just as hard and it was Merrien that was 5,4 up by the fourth end but then the wheels came off as Cooper rallied and took three successive doubles on the next three ends to go into a 5,10 lead. Merrien tried to regain control but Devon held her down to just two singles to clinch the second set 7,10.

Into the tie break and both ladies were neck and neck with the bowls but it was Merrien that managed to hold off Cooper and take the first two ends to seal her place in the semi finals.
