Quill bowls as Marshall looks on

It was Quill’s first attempt on the portable rink at the world championships and he relished the opportunity to play against one of the world’s great players. It was Marshall though that quickly showed his skills as he built a 6,0 lead by the close of end three. Quill was not be outdone though as he took a double and then a single count in the next two ends off Marshall. Quill hung in there and although Marshall took the next three ends Quill made him play for them. Marshall took the first set with a score line of 10,3

Trial ends with Marshall and Quill

Second set and Marshall opened up taking a three count on the first end but it was Quill that raised a big cheer from the audience as he took a double off Marshall in the second end. Quill was playing some good bowls but it was the expertise of Marshall that took three shots over the next two ends. End five and Quill managed to grab a single away from Marshall but Marshall closed out the second set taking a full house of four in end six and then a further single in end eight to take the second set 11,3 and match.
