In the first round of the ‘Just’ 2017 World Indoor Open Singles here at Potters Resort this opening match was one of blistering form from Ireland’s qualifier - one Graham McKee. He was up against England’s Andy Thomson MBE who was also in good form but it was Mckee that was on fire. Despite 3 times World Indoor Champion Thomson playing very well it was McKee that was leaving the former World Champion with nowhere to go and by the 5th end of the first set it was 6-3 to McKee. Thomson got a single out of end 6 but then McKee turned up the fire and blazed another 3 shots in the next two ends to take the first set 4-9.
Into the second set and McKee opened up taking the first 3 ends with 6 shots, Thomson tried to respond and despite putting bowls to within an inch of the jack he was only allowed 3 shots in ends 4 & 5. Then Mckee just simply denied the Statesman of Bowls any further opportunities and no matter waht Thomson did, Mckee did better and he finished off the second set and match 4,9 - 3,11 and goes through to the second round where he faces the winner of the Julie Forrest/Stewart Anderson match.
