It was the second semi final for the World Indoor Under 25’s this afternoon on the famous blue portable rink and from Ireland was Chloe Watson, WIBC 2017 Indoor Singles Champion and 5 times Irish Indoor Triples Champion up against British Isles Under 25’s 2017 Winner from North Ayrshire, Chris Carswell.
It was a match that saw a great performance from young Watson as scores were drawn on end 3 at three all. Both players not quite getting the hang of the rink but playing with a fervour that got the audience cheering them. By end 5 the score was 4 across and then it was Watson that started to get the better of the portable rink picking off a treble and then a single to go 9,4 up. Carswell fought back hard and on several occasions he got shots around the jack but Watson’s persistence paid off as she only allowed him two singles and so it was Watson to take the first set 9,6.
Second set and again it was a little loose, however it was Carswell that got his nose out in front as he went 3,5 up by the fifth end. Ends six and seven it was one apiece but then Watson played some big bowls to take a triple on end eight to go 7,6 up. Watson holding shot on the last end and Carswell runs at it, picks up a double to count two and takes the set 7,8 – tie break. In a mixture of good and bad bowls it was young Watson from Ireland that played the big bowls at the right time to take ends one and two and saw herself going into tonight’s final at 7.30pm on BBC red button against Australia’s young Ellen Ryan
