In the last of the second round matches it was two former World Indoor Singles Champions against each other, World No 1 Greg Harlow against World No 15, Andy Thomson MBE. Both these players have a great record here at the World Indoor Championships and a great respect for each other on the rink.
Set one started and it was Harlow that was getting the better of Thomson on the portable rink almost straight away. Harlow had immediately found great form and was playing most impressively from the word go. Thomson got a single shot away on the first end but then Harlow just shut him out from the rest of the first set – no matter what Thomson did it was Harlow that denied him anything as Harlow took end after end with Thomson getting nothing more on the card. First set to Harlow 1,10.
Second set and by end four Thomson was 2,4 down to Harlow despite some spirited bowls. End five and Harlow denied Thomson yet again to take a good single but in end six it was the turn for Thomson to get a great count of three to level at 5,5. Once again though, Harlow piled on the pressure and he took the next three ends with two doubles and a single to take the second set and match 1,10 – 5,10. Harlow goes through to face Brett in tomorrows quarter finals live on BBC 2 at 1.00pm.
