In the second Ladies quarter final it was England’s Janice Gower up against 20 year old Katy Smith. Smith had got her place into the event by being one of the top three ladies in the Professional Bowls Association ranking list and who had deservedly got her place in the World Indoor Championships. Smith, a teaching assistant from Swindon, chalked up a good treble on the seventh end to move 5-4 ahead and although she dropped the penultimate end, she recouped and counted the vital shot on the last end to win the first set narrowly 6-5.
It was a similar story in the second, nip and tuck with both players through the first few sets to go 3 all by the end of the 6th, but this time it was Gower who scooped a treble on the seventh end and and then kept the momentum to go on and win the set 7-4. And Gower kept this momentum going in the tie break to win 2-0. The semi-finals go ahead on Wednesday clashing with English colleague Ellen Falkner.
