Last match of the afternoon saw England International, Janice Gower up against Guernsey’s Top Lady and six times British Isles Ladies Singles Champion, Alison Merrien MBE. These two players are the best of friends off rink and know each others game off by heart so this was setting out to be a great game between these two.
Into the first set it was a great start with quality bowls from both players. By end fout is was two shots each on the card. End five and it was Gower that pounced with a great end to steal a count of three, not to be outdone Merrien outplayed Gower to take a single and then a double to level the score again at 5 all by end seven. Gower was end down and played a brilliant draw bowl with her last bowl to take a single on end eight and it was Merrien who then produced the goods to take a single on end nine to level the set on the final end to 6 all.
Gower started the second set well taking a single and then a double but Merrien bounced straight back with a triple on end three and a single on end four to go 4,3 in the lead. End five and Gower played a last draw bowl to take a single and level the score at four all. She then went on to produce outstanding bowls to take two further singles to go 4,6 up by the seventh end. End eight and it was Merrien that then took a single, there was only one shot between them going into the last end and it was Gower that managed to lay two close ones and Merrien just could not dislodge them enough and it is Gower that goes through to the semi final here at Potters Resort on Wednesday 24th January at 7.30pm
