Gillett takes the first semi final slot of the day

8 November, 2018

First quarter final of the day here at the Dewars Centre in the Scottish International Open 2018 was between Les ‘[email protected] Gillett and England’s Perry Martin. What a match the full house crowd were treated to as both players were playing to a very high calibre – if you did not see it it is well worth a watch on the WBT Facebbook live recordings.

The first set and at 2 all in the third end Gillett picked off a great treble but Martin responded with a single and a double over the next two ends. Then it was bowls for bowl and it was Gillet that picked off three further singles to take the first set 8,5.

Second set and it was Gillett that was slightly better as he picked off shots with great bowls from Martin, taking a double on the first end. Martin again responded with a single on the second end. Gillet was not to be outdone and came straight back with two singles to give him a 4,1 lead in the fourth end. Martin kept fighting on and picked off two singles on the next two ends to be only one shot behind on end six. Then Gillett pounced and it was a double on the seventh to go 6,3 in end eight. With great bowls it was Gillett again on the ninth that took a full house of four to take the second set and match 10.3.
