25 January, 2019

Les Gillett, World Ranked at No. 12 was up against the European PBA No 1, Scott Edwards in the third quarter final of the day here in the International Arena at Potters Resort in front of an absolutely packed crowd.

Scott Edwards, Les Gillett and Official Dan Bluett

Gillett stormed into the first set, overwhelming the bowls of Edwards in the first four ends to take a 7,0 lead. Edwards was not giving in though and payed a great bowl to take a double away from Gillett in end five. In the next three ends Edwards gave Gillett a good run for his money but it was to no avail as Gillett took three hard earned singles to clinch the first set 10,2.

Scott Edwards

Second set and it was Edwards that had upped his game another notch against Gillett and this time it was Edwards that had a five shot lead by end three. Gillett though was yet ready to pack in and he responded in style, taking seven shots in the next three ends go go ahead 7,5. End seven and again Edwards put together a great end to take a treble only to promptly drop a three on end eight not leave Gillett 10,8 in front. Les played a great final end leaving Edwrads with no shot to really play to make the count of three he needed to force a tie break – it was just a single to Edwards and second set and match went to Gillett for a place in the semi finals. 10,2 – 10,9.
