In the first match of today’s opening round of the Just 2017 World Indoor Open Singles it was Neil Furman from the USA up against the Welsh Wizard, Jason Greenslade. Furman started off like a non stop express train as he powered to a 6-1 lead by the 5th end but then Greenslade found the line and stopped Furman dead in his tracks. Taking a single, then a triple and then again another single it was 6 all going into the last end, with one each to play and the jack being respotted it was a draw to the jack for either one of them for the set - Furman drew a great shot leaving Greenslade looking for an exact dead weight bowl, Greenslade missed the weight and it was Furman taking the first set.
Set two was a great set of nip and tuck between the two and at the 5th end it was 6-5 to Greenslade. Greenslade took a double on the 6th and this time it was Furman that then took a double on the 7th so once again it was 8 all square going into the last end. Once again it was a powerhouse play from Furman as he went on to take another double, second set and match to the man of the moment from the USA. Furman goes through to the second round on Thursday 26th January where he comes up against Scotland’s High Performance Coach, David Gourlay.
