The second quarter final in the Ladies Singles Championship was between the WIBC Ladies Singles runner up, Kerry Packwood from Wales and she faced the Record Scottish 7 x Ladies Singles Champion, Julie Forrest. Forrest is also the PBA No 2 Lady on their ranking List and this was, on paper, promising to be a great match.
Forrest opened up proceedings with a quick three on end one but Packwood held her off with a great last bowl on end two to take a single. Ends three and four both players were playing well and managed to get only a single shot each. 2,5 to Forrest. It was Packwood that was on the backfoot as Forrest played slightly better on the next two ends to take a single and a double count to go 2,8 in the lead. Packwood played a great bowl to take a single on end seven but it was Forrest that added another two shots on end eight to take the first set 3,10. The score line though does not reflect the quality of play from both of them.
Into set two though and it was Forrest that was feeling really at home on the rink as end after end she played crucial inch perfect bowls just at the right time and it was Packwood that was forced to play defensive bowls, often to no avail as Forrest continually found an answer to everything Packwood put in. Packwood started of with a single on end one but Forrest took nine shots over the next five ends. Packwood did not give in though and managed to hold onto a single in end seven but it was Forrest that sealed a place in the semi finals with a single count on end eight to take the second set 2,10.
