Duncan & Walker start their blaze for pairs title

12 January, 2019

Final match of the day was between the pairing of England’s Les Gillett and Jason Greenslade from Wales up against the Scot’s Colin Walker and Ronnie Duncan and everyone was expecting a tight match and that is exactly what they got. First set and it was Gillett/Greenslade that got off to a good start but Walker/Duncan were hot on their heels and by end four it was only a mere 3,2 to Gillett/Greenslade. By end six it had crept to 4 all and it was a great bowl from Gillett that took a single and set 5,4.

Second set and again it was a nail biting tight start, 2 all in the third end which crept up to 3,4 to Walker/Duncan by the end of the fifth. Walker/Duncan took a single on the sixth end and it was a nail biter as Gillet/Greenslade only just missed taking a double on end seven. Set to Walker/Duncan 4,5 and the tie breaker swiftly followed. Walker/Duncan took the first end, then Gillett/Greenslade took the next, last and final decider end went to the wire with Walker/Duncan holding a definite single and Gillett with last bowl, he only just missed the draw by fractions and it was end set and match, 5,4 – 4,5 – 1,2 to the Scots pair of Walker & Duncan who go through to face Scotland’s David Gourlay MBE and England’s Mervyn King pairing Saturday afternoon.
