defending pairs champions bow out to foster and marshall

12 January, 2019

In the first of the Pairs quarter finals it was the defending Champions, Jamie Chestney and Mark Dawes up against the Scots Paul Foster MBE and Alex Marshall MBE. It was Foster and Marshall that got off to a great start as they went 1,4 in the lead in end four. Chestney and Dawes were playing well but is was the Scots duo that were putting their bowls to better use and they powered their way through the first set in a 3,6 win.

Paul Foster MBE, Alex Marshall MBE, Mark Dawes & Jamie Chestney

The second set though and Chestney and Dawes upped their game and it became a bit of a fight – 5,3 up in the fourth end it was looking good for them but then Marshall and Foster retaliated with a double and a single in ends five and six to go one in front. Final end and Chestney and Dawes needed a minimum of a double to force a much needed tie break. They held a single but Marshall shut the end right down and Chestney played a great last bowl looking for that elusive double – it looked good all the way but just died off and it was a single count only so the set closed at 6,6. Match to Foster and Marshall who go through to the semi-finals on Monday 14th Jan here at Potters Resort.
