DAWES & CHESTNEY SET UP A FINAL HEAD TO HEAD AGAINST FALKNER AND HARLOW

11 January, 2021

Mark Dawes and Jamie Chestney produced a solid performance to end the giant killing run of Jack Bird and Stuart and will line up in the ’JUST’ Open Pairs title decider on Monday 18th January.

In the last match of the fourth day of action, Dawes and Chestney – Champions in 2018 proved too strong for their determined opponents.

In the opening set, a full house on the second end, followed by a 1, 2 and 1 gave then an 8-1 cushion, but to their credit Bird and Irwin battled back and looked to be back in the frame when they held four shots on the penultimate end - that would have given them an 9-8 lead. However Chestney rescued the situation, averted the danger and scored a single and went on to win the set 9-6.

In the second though, it was one way traffic and the experienced international duo romped home 9-1, dropping only one end.

“It’s nice to get to the final” said Chestney. We have certainly lacked match practice due to the CoVid situation but gradually we’re finding our form and will have time to work on that further before we play in that final”.
