It was Les Gillet up against qualifier Jamie Chestney, and Chestney who is just outside the Top 16 in Ranking Points was looking for a first round win, this meant he had to play at the top of his game to get past a determined Gillett. There wasw not a lot between the two players in the first set but it was Chestney that played the bigger conversion bowls to steal scores away from Gillett. It was 7 all at the end of the 8th and again it was Chestney that played the big bowl to get a single and first set 7-8.
Second set and yet again it was both players pitting their skills against each other but again it has to be said that it was Chestney that held off a battling Gillett with his conversion bowls. Chestney only allowed Gillett to take three ends of the second set and polished the match off taking the last two ends with two doubles to take the second set and match 7-8, 7-12
