Here at the Co-op Funeralcare European Masters Charlie Bence, the man that made all the news at the recent World Indoor Championships where he took the World Number 1 Nick Brett to a tie break, is at it again.
He took his first match here yesterday against Pat Briscoe from Betteshanger in a nail biter tie break on the TV Rink to the delight of a massive audience on the WBT Facebook stream to clinch the first match with a scoreline of 8-6, 6-11, 0-2.
In his second match here today against East Lothian’s Stewart Douglas it has to be said that it looked as if was one step too far for the man from Blantyre. In the first set it was obvious that Bence was just not catching the rink as Douglas just powered his way through the first set 3 -8. Bence just seemed to dig deep in the second set and fought tooth and nail with every shot in the book to stave off Douglas and Bence took the second set 7-4 to force the tie break.
Again, it was Douglas that powered in, and the first end easily went to Douglas. Bence then struck a blow as he swiped the second end off Douglas and forced the 3rd end. Into the final end it seemed as if someone had given Bence a new lease of life as he played incredible bowls and took the 3rd end and also the match.
