World number 1 Nicky Brett was the last of the seeds in action and he eventually overcame South African Shawn Nell 12-3, 8-3.
The scoreline does not reflect the match though as Brett had to come up with some big bowls throughout both sets to keep Nell at bay during the match, particularly in the first set.
“I didn’t start absolutely fabulously but that’s the way it goes. I settled down well though and got better as the match progressed and managed to get a good control of the pace and find good weight in the end, so I’m very pleased to make it to the second round and am looking forward to my match against Stewart on Thursday morning”. said Brett
