Brett and Purcell make the semi finals in mixed pairs

17 January, 2020

The third quarter final here today at Potters Resort in the ‘Just’ 2020 World Indoor Mixed Pairs Championships this afternoon was an all Scotland pairing of Paul Foster MBE and pairs partner Julie Forrest who were up against a pairing of England’s Nick Brett and Marion Purcell from Wales.

Brett, Forrest, Foster and Purcell delivering the bowl

The first set was very tight to start with as by the completion of end fout the score was Foster/Forrest 2 and Brett/Purcell 3. Ends five and six saw the combination of Brett/Purcell take a double count on both ends to go 2,7 in the lead and they only dropped a single shot on end seven to take the first set 3,7

Second set and it was the Foster/Forrest combination that flew off to a great start going 5,0 in the lead by the completion of the third end. Brett/Purcell only managed to get three shots over the next two ends to make the scoreline 5,3 and it was Foster/Forrest that finished off the set with another three shots to take the second set 8,3

But it was the tiebreak that was Foster/Forrest’s undoing as Brett/Purcell played some awesome bowls to take the first two ends straight and complete the match win for a place in the semi finals on Sunday afternoon on the 19th January.
