Blackpool’s Mark Dawes , who yesterday sealed his first ever spot in the World Indoor Top 16 for next season which guarantees him entry to all the World Bowls Tour Televised Ranking events and opens the doors to other events, and had reached the Quarter Finals of the Co-operative Funeralcare to face Nick Brett but in the first set he just could not find the magic against an on fire Brett. Brett only allowed Dawes 1 single in the 2nd end a further double in the 6th to take the first set 10-3. It seemed as if this was deemed to CONTINUE into the second set as Dawes was 5-1 down by the fifth end but he suddenly found a magic wand and denied Brett anything further taking a series of 8 shots over the next 4 ends to whip the set away from Brett and go 9-5 up. Into the tie break and it was Dawes who took the first end but this time it was not to be as Brett rose up and put on a class display and denied Dawes anything further to take the next two ends and match 2 sets to 1 with the scoreline 10-3, 5-9, 2-1. After the match Mark Dawes said,” I had achieved the objective of the week which was to ensure I got into the hallowed top 16 for next season where I hope to increase my ranking points to climb higher on the ladder. Although I am disappointed to lose here against Brett in the Quarter Finals - next season will be my big chance for the future and I intend to do all that I can to maximise where I will start from and I am really looking forward to it”
