It was an absolutely crammed to the brim International Arena at Potter’s Resort, Hopton on Sea today for the Final of the ‘Just’ 2018 World Indoor Open Singles Championship where two players have battled their way through the last two weeks in action packed drama to reach this pointy. BBC Sport live with all their camera’s were there to show every second of high tensile drama. It was time for Blackpool’s Mark Dawes and Devonian Robert Paxton to do battle like the two gladiators did in the old days.
If you have not seen it live then I would recommend that you take a chance to sit down, rest your legs, turn on BBC iplayer or the BBC Sport website and enjoy the drama of the afternoon. If you cannot log onto either of those you can see the match itself on Worldbowlstour facebook page. I am not going to give anything away except as to who it was that won it in great style. What I will say is that both players were at the top of their form and the match was consistently high drama with neither player dominating the other until the final throws of the dice.
It was the man from Blackpool that had showed great play throughout the whole of the event that finally came to the fore in a high drama and action packed ending to the match. The part time Crown Greener shrugged of noise and distraction and just went about the business of high calibre bowls throughout the whole match, he had to fight hard for the crown, it was no easy match, Devonian and World Number 6 fought him every single millimetre of the way, and Dawes withstood all pressure to come on top. Congratulations and well done to Mark Dawes, Blackpool Newton Hall Indoor Bowls club will rightly be proud of you!!
