In the last game of the day, Brown and Whyers returned to the blue portable rink, trying to further their cause and take a place in tomorrow’s quarter finals against former three in a row winners Paul Foster MBE and Alex Marshall MBE.
Standing between them and that last eight berth were Les Gillett from England and Welshman Jason Greenslade. Both are in the top 16 on the WBT Ranking List and only needed six of the seven ends in the first set to post an 8-1 scoreline. In the second Brown and Whyers raced into a 7-2 lead and although only scoring on one of the remaining three ends won 8-5 to force the match to a best of three end shoot out.
The match looked home and hosed with the English qualifiers taking the first end and then holding shot in the second. However a wayward last bowl from Greenslade saw him catch a short bowl into the head and when the dust settled actually counted the vital shot, and went on to win the last end to see them through 2-1.
