Gourlay makes the second round

6 March, 2016

David Gourlay against wildcard Steven Allan, both from Scotland, was the second to last game for today on the blue rink and it was Gourlay that got off to a flying start before Allan pitched in. It was 7 across by the 6th end of the first set and Allan grabbed a single in end 8 to go 1 in front but it was Gourlay that produced some great bowls in the next two ends to take two trebles from Allan to take the first set 13-8.

Both Gourlay and Allan settled down to some great bowls in the second set but it was Gourlay who managed to produce the goods against Allan and simply denied Allan many opportunities to take a count and Gourlay went 6-1 up by the 5th end of the second set. Allan fought back to take 4 shots away from Gourlay over the next three ends to take the score 6-5 in 8th end leaving Allan looking for those few extra shots to force a tie break but it was Gourlay that held him off to take the second set and match with a final scoreline of 13-8, 7-5
