England’s Andy Thomson MBE faced off against New Zealand’s Murray Glassey in the Co-op Funera lcare International Open here at Newton Hall Holiday Park in Blackpool and Thomson said he wanted to put on a good performance as he thought that Glassey was a strong contender.
Glassey struggled a little with the pace in the first few ends and a supremely confident Thomson took immediate and full advantage as he powered his way through the first set. Denying Glassey any opportunity and calmly taking away any Glassey shot he cleaned up the first set 14-1.
Into the second set and Glassey fought exceptionally hard to hold off a determined Thomson and it was 2 all by the 4th end. Glassey took a single on the 5th, Thomson responding with a double on the 6th. It was Glassey that then managed a single on the 7th to make it 4 all. But it was Thomson that sea;ed Glassey’s fate by taking two singles counts on the next two ends to take the second set and match 6-4
