royal falls at the first hurdle

7 November, 2016

The final game of the day here at the Live Active Centre in the Coop Funeralcare Scottish International Open featured World No11 Mark Royal against Cumbrian Trevor Taylor. Both players have been on form in recent months Taylor winning both the Scopttish and also the International PBA qualifiers at his home club back in September. It was Taylor that hit the floor running in the first set and although Royal hung in till the last end it was Taylor that took the set 9.6.

The second set was a tight affair with Royal leading after four ends 3.2. But Taylor is no stranger to the big stage and has qualified several times for WBT events in the past and many have thought his time would come in one of the ranking tournaments. With two very impressive ends from Taylor, Royal was looking down the barrel of defeat and when the dust settled after nine ends. Another seed had fell at the first hurdle and it was Taylor who took the last sixteen place with a 10.4 second set score.
