Greenslade makes a run for the last berth in the second round of the singles

22 January, 2018

Final match of the day here at Potters resort was the last of the first round Open Singles matches between Wales’s Jason Greenslade and Qualifier from Falkirk, Scotland’s Robert Gordon. A determined Greenslade stepped onto the portable rink with a will to win as he needed to win this match to gain ranking points to stay in the World’s Top 16.

The first set opened with Greenslade starting what looked like a demolition job on Gordon. By the fifth end he was 6,1 up on Gordon and it began to look as if Greenslade was just going to roll right over Gordon. Gordon managed a single in end six but it was Greenslade that continued on taking two singles and completing the set in the next two ends. 8,2

Gordon came out of the traps quicker in set two taking the first three ends with far better bowls and kept plugging away at Greenslade and it was all level at 5 all on the completion of the seventh end. It looked as if Gordon had found his way and was going to be able to force a much needed tie break set. End eight and again Gordon stole the show putting in some cracking bowls to take a single to go one up. Into the ninth end and it was Greenslade that played brilliantly with a toucher that Gordon just could not get to, twice he narrowly missed with weighted bowls and it was Greenslade that took the last set with a level score and goes through to the next round.
