Gilor nearly derails the coach

5 November, 2016

First of the afternoon matches here in the Co-op Funeralcare Scottish International Open was between Ruti Gilor from Israel up against David Gourlay from Scotland.  Gilor is an accomplished Israeli outdoor player and everyone thought that she would struggle to get to grips with playing on the Indoor Portable Rink – however Gilor soon showed her metal. It was Gourlay that powered into a massive lead going 8,1 up by the 5th end. Gilor dug deep though and remained calm and then seemed to throw a switch to up a gear and she took the next 4 ends and made Gourlay fight hard with precision bowls to stay in front. It was Gouraly that came out in front as he claimed the first set 8,6.

Into the second set and Gilor took a full count of four from Gourlay in the first end. Gourlay steadied and took two pairs in the next two ends to make it 4 all. Gilor then took the next two ends with two singles and again Gourlay had to up a gear with perfect bowls. Gourlay took end 6 with a double, Gilor took a single in the next, Gourlay steadied and played again perfect bowls to take a single on the 8th end, Gourlay drew two perfect bowls and it was Gilor that had to move them – however she did not quite make it it and Gourlay took the 2nd set and match: 8,6 – 9,7.
