First seed exits the Scottish international open

5 November, 2016

The first match of this years Co-op Funeralcare Scottish International Open here at the Live Active centre in Perth, Scotland was between England’s Wayne Willgress and Scotland’s Jonathan Ross.

Ross has been struggling for several months with a back injury but stepped out onto the blue portable with grim determination and the first set saw some superb bowls from both players. The first set went to 4 all in the 7th end with neither Ross or Willgress giving way. It was Willgress that managed to take 3 further singles to wrap up the first set 4,6.

Into the second set and Ross again showed steely determination as Willgress found confidence and played extremely well. With back problems though, it began to tell, and Ross gradually trailed behind Willgress. It was Willgress that took the second set and match to go through to round 2 on Tuesday 8th .
