Danny Denison overturns paul hartley for a place in the finals

6 May, 2017

Day three of the Co-op Funeralcare European Masters at Blackpool Newton Hall Holiday Park with the last 8 in the two halves of the draw for the two tourcard prizes started with Paul Hartley from Hartlepool facing Danny Denison from Torquay United playing on the grandstand rink with full WBT rules and shotclock.

The first set started well for Hartley as he was 4-2 by the 5th end but then Denison found his stride and did not allow Hartley and more on the card as he took the next 4 ends to take the set 4-8. Hartley settled down and fought back in the second set going 5-2 up by the 5th end. Denison managed a good double in the 6th end but it was Hartley that finished the 2nd set off taking 3 singles over the next three ends to take the second set 8-4 and force a tie break.

With the last bowl Denison played a timed shot to take the first end off Hartley, 2nd end it was Hartley that did the exact same to Denison to go 1 all – on the 3rd and deciding end though it was Denison that lied a tight shot and Hartley elected to drive and nominated a killed end. Hartley drove straight at the bowls but missed by a mere fraction and it is Denison that goes to the finals tomorrow.
