Australia’s Ellen Ryan makes the Under 25’s final at the championships

28 January, 2017

The 2016 Open Singles outdoor Champion for Australia from New South Wales made her debut here at Potters Resort in the ‘Just’ 2017 World Indoor Championships for the Under 25’s and played against Jason Banks from Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Ryan did not appear in the least bit fazed by the portable as she opened up proceedings in record time. Leaving Banks reeling in the first set she was in acommanding lead by the end of the 4th going 8-0 up. Banks managed to grab a single on the 5th end but that was all Ryan allowed as she powered to a 10-1 up first set.

Into the second set and perhaps Ryan had relaxed slightly and Banks had found his weight and line as he then strove to get a tie break going. At the fifth end it was 3 all, Ryan getting a single in the 6th end but it was Banks that then closed the door as he took 4 shots over the next three ends to take a 4-7 lead and set.

Into the tie break and it was Banks with good drawing that took the first end but then Ryan again came to the fore and she denied Banks by taking the next two ends. Ryan goes through to tonight’s final where she faces the winner of the other semi final Martin Puckett.
